Skoda Kylaq 2026: A 'Proper' European SUV for the Price of a Hatchback!
The Skoda Kylaq is the car we’ve all been waiting for. It’s a sub-4 meter SUV that doesn't feel like a compromise. For the first time, you can get that legendary European 'solid' build quality without breaking your bank. After spending a day with it, here is why I think this is a game-changer.
The Skoda Kylaq 2026 enters the most competitive segment in India—the sub-compact SUV market. It’s here to fight the giants like Brezza, Venue, and Sonet. But the Kylaq has something they don't: the soul of a German engineered car at an Indian price point.
Design: Modern Solid & Tough
Skoda calls it the "Modern Solid" design language. The Kylaq looks tough yet sophisticated. The split LED headlamp setup with T-shaped DRLs gives it a very modern face. What I loved the most is the high ground clearance (nearly 189mm) which makes it perfect for our pothole-filled city roads. It might be under 4 meters, but on the road, it looks like a mini-Kushaq.
The TSI Power: Small Engine, Big Heart
Under the hood, you get the award-winning 1.0L TSI Turbo Petrol engine. Don't let the '1.0 liter' fool you.
When the turbo kicks in at around 1800 RPM, the Kylaq just flies! With 115 PS of power, overtaking on highways is effortless. The 6-speed manual gearbox is precise, but if you live in a city like Mumbai or Bangalore, the 6-speed Torque Converter Automatic is the one to get. It’s smooth, fast, and very reliable.
Kylaq 2026 Quick Facts:
- 🚀 Performance: 115 PS / 178 Nm Torque
- ⛽ Mileage: Around 18-19 kmpl (ARAI)
- 🛡️ Safety: 6 Airbags, ESC, and Multi-collision brakes (Standard)
- 💎 USP: MQB-A0-IN Platform (Strong & Safe)
The Cabin: Smart, Clean, and Clever
Inside, the layout is very clean. Skoda hasn't cluttered the dashboard with too many buttons. You get a beautiful 10-inch touchscreen and a digital cockpit that looks very premium.
And yes, the "Simply Clever" touches are there—like the umbrella holder in the door and the rubber-lined cup holders. The seats are well-bolstered, and even for a tall person like me, there is enough headroom in the back.
Safety: No Compromise Here
While some brands give safety as an 'option,' Skoda gives it as a 'standard.' Even the base model of the Kylaq comes with 6 Airbags. It feels sturdy, and when you close the door, you still get that reassuring 'Thud.' With all the stability controls and high-strength steel used, it’s easily one of the safest cars in its class.
Should You Buy the Skoda Kylaq?
Starting at an expected ₹7.89 Lakh (ex-showroom), the Skoda Kylaq is a steal. It’s for the person who wants a safe, fun-to-drive SUV but doesn't want to spend 15-20 lakhs. It’s honest, it's tough, and it’s very European.
"My Verdict: If you love driving, skip the competition and test drive the Kylaq. You will feel the difference in the first 5 minutes!"
